Gorge Wind Stats from 2015 - A photo Guide
Some Gorge Fun facts based on 2015 data. Obviously nobody can control Mother Nature, and she will do what she does regardless of our input, but the odds are heavily in your favor if you are betting on winds in the gorge.
In season:
3 out of 10 days had "Good Wind" (15 to 20mph)
3 out of 10 days had "Great Wind" (20 to 30mph)
2 out of 10 days had "lighter winds" (10 to 15mph).
1 out of 10 may be a "skunk" (< 10mph)
1 out of 10 days had "Heavy winds" (> 30mph)
In 2015, we had "Good winds" to "Great winds" for 5 days and 1 "light wind" day. No skunks or heavy.
So... I have been asked. what does a heavy day look like? Lets take a look shall we :)
Keep in the back of your mind though that even on these days, significantly smaller waves can be found along shore as well as the fact that the photos below are all taken from 'Swell City" that is home to the largest waves in the Gorge.
Heavy Winds > 30mph
Great Winds > 20 to 30 mph
Good Winds 15 to 20 mph
Lighter Winds 10 to 15 mph
< 10 mph - Skunked ---- " YOU ARE NEVER SKUNKED AT THE GORGE"
